Report: NFL Executive Declines To Interview With The Patriots

New England Patriots scouting director Eliot Wolf has served as the team’s de facto general manager since they parted ways with Bill Belichick. But the Patriots have also been trying to interview top candidates around the league and have apparently been snubbed repeatedly.

According to ProFootballTalk, Arizona Cardinals vice president of player personnel Quentin Harris is the latest NFL executive to decline a chance to even interview with the Patriots for their general manager position. Yesterday it was revealed that Cincinnati Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown also turned down a chance to interview for the role.

Harris’ decision to turn down the Patriots is a surprise given that he interviewed for several other general manager positions this past offseason. He played six seasons in the NFL and has served as a staffer in Arizona since 2008.

ProFootballTalk noted that Wolf has been seen as the most likely choice to get the job regardless of who the Patriots interview. That might explain why the candidates for the position are turning them down – why bother interviewing for a job that you aren’t even a candidate for?

Wolf has already done the hard part by working with owner Robert Kraft to hire a new head coach in Jerod Mayo and drafting quarterback Drake Maye to be the team’s franchise quarterback of the future.

The fact that Wolf has already done those two key things might be another reason that the Patriots are getting the phone hung up on them.

Will Eliot Wolf be officially named the next general manager of the Patriots?
