Ravens Expected To Release Free Agent Signee, Top Fits Emerge

May 21, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Ravens Joe Noteboom

The Baltimore Ravens signed offensive tackle Joe Noteboom as a free agent, but the longtime Los Angeles Ram might not make the team. Firmly buried on the depth chart behind 2024 second-round pick Roger Rogengarten and the re-signed Brandon Staley, Noteboom was supposed to be a versatile backup that could start at either tackle position at a moment’s notice. However, following the addition of third-round pick Emery Jones and fifth-round pick Carson Vinson could lead to his release.

At least, that’s what Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes. In a recent article, the NFL analyst highlighted one probable roster cut from all 32 teams. When he came to the Ravens, the writer stated that Joe Noteboom could be on the way out if the rookies impress during the offseason.

“While Noteboom has 29 starts on his resume, he’ll turn 30 next month and was limited to four games by injuries last season,” Knox writes. “He has value as a swing tackle, but if a younger lineman emerges, he could still be out.”

Knox: Ravens Could Release Joe Noteboom

Joe Noteboom is nobody’s idea of an ideal starting tackle at this phase of his career, but he could still get a job if the Ravens release him. Put simply, there aren’t enough good starting tackles to go around, and the following teams could pursue him if he becomes available.

Possible Fits

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are betting everything on fourth-overall pick Will Campbell turning into a franchise cornerstone at left tackle. While his collegiate film is impressive, his remarkably short arms mean he’d need to be a historic outlier to stick at his current position in the NFL. Drake Maye had an impressive rookie season, but he’ll never reach his ceiling without proper blocking. If the Ravens release him, Joe Noteboom can provide much-needed security at the tackle position and ensure Vederian Lowe never sees the field.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs addressed the left tackle position by spending big on Jaylon Moore and selecting Ohio State’s Josh Simmons in the first round. Unfortunately, that won’t fix the right tackle position. Jawaan Taylor has a massive salary, but he has never justified the team’s heavy investment. Seeing as he has no guaranteed money on his contract beyond this season, the Chiefs could bench him if he doesn’t improve and release him in 2026. Noteboom could be an adequate short-term fix for one of the biggest weaknesses on an otherwise strong roster.

Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans have a player that could be their franchise quarterback in first-overall pick Cam Ward. Now, they need to keep him healthy and upright. The team broke the bank on free agent Dan Moore and used a first-round pick on JC Latham in 2024, but they could use more insurance along the offensive line. Ward liked to hold on to the ball in college, so Tennessee must build a strong offensive line to support his style of play.
