Ravens Expected To Release Fourth-Year Bust

August 23, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Edge defender David Ojabo has struggled in the NFL, and the Baltimore Ravens could cut him before his rookie contract comes to a close. Widely projected to be a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Michigan product tore his Achilles during a Pro Day workout. Baltimore bought low on the prospect, selecting him in the second round with the understanding he’d need some time to recapture his old form.

To date, that hasn’t happened. While he played in a career-high 13 games last year, he didn’t do much while on the field. Playing a resrve role, Ojabo finished the season with just two sacks, nine tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and six quarterback hits. This underwhelming performance, combined with Baltimore’s impressive depth at the position, leads Bleacher Report‘s Gary Davenport to believe the team will cut David Ojabo.

“The Michigan product has declared himself healthy and drawn positive reviews from coaches at training camp. But the Ravens were already deep on the edge before adding 2024 FBS sack leader Mike Green in the 2025 draft,” Davenport writes. “Ojabo is buried on the depth chart. And it will take an injury to save his roster spot.”

Ravens Could Cut David Ojabo; Suitors Could Emerge

Next Teams

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers entered the offseason with questionable depth at edge defender, but now they’re in a desperate situation following the Nic Scourton injury. The second-round pick will miss a bit of time with a collapsed lung, and Carolina could claim David Ojabo if the Ravens cut him. Third-round pick Princely Umanmielen is reportedly impressing in camp, but Baltimore needs more bodies along the defensive line. Ojabo has some unrealized promise and could carve out a key role for a team looking to compete in a weak NFC South.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have a talented defensive line, but there’s always room for improvement. First-year head coach Mike Vrabel is an old-school coach who wants to win in the trenches, and he should be interested in the idea of a low-risk, medium-reward signing like David Ojabo. The Patriots added several difference makers over the past few months, but this team is far from perfect. If he pans out, Ojabo could make this defense a little bit better and help them compete for a Wild Card spot.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs must get creative with how they acquire talent. While the team is loaded with top-level playmakers, the salary cap ensures teams cannot indefinitely keep all their star players. With this in mind, the Chiefs could make a move for a cost-effective player like David Ojabo if the Ravens cut him. Chances are, he won’t cost more than the veteran minimum and offers a decent amount of upside.
