Ravaged Raiders Could Trade Top Weapon; 3 Possible Fits

September 20, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After one of the worst starts in the league, the Las Vegas Raiders might not be in a position to win, so they may trade Jakobi Meyers. According to a source, they believe the Raiders may trade Meyers since they’re off to a grueling start, and it might get worse if there isn’t any improvement. Meyers did request a trade earlier, before the 2025 campaign, and now it looks like the Raiders might be heading in that direction, as he is in his last year of his contract. Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in 2019, the former NC State product could be dealt to a new team before the trade deadline in the next few weeks.

In head coach Pete Carroll’s first season, it’s obvious the Raiders are taking things slow and rebuilding up it’s roster from the ground up. Even though Meyers is their top weapon, recording 165 receiving yards so far, it won’t matter if the team is losing and out of postseason contention. They must trade him while he still has value, and the Raiders could get something out of him to build for the future that can help quarterback Geno Smith. It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the season goes for him since rookie Dont’e Thornton has shown some promise, and Jack Bech could be the eventual replacement.

Potential Destinations

Dallas Cowboys

While the Dallas Cowboys have two of the hottest receivers in the league between CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, they’re still lacking depth. Jalen Tolbert hasn’t been performing up to the standards that the Cowboys have hoped, but he’s not to blame, as Pickens’s presence created a shift. However, the easy drops from Tolbert are avoidable, so they must consider what they may do here. If he no longer fits into this offense, they should trade for Meyers, who has more experience and could be a true slot receiver that can fight for yardage.

After losing Jonathan Mingo, the Cowboys must add more depth if they want Dak Prescott to distribute the ball, which he hasn’t been able to do in the past two weeks.

Washington Commanders

Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders might soon be in dire need of a wide receiver. Ever since Terry McLaurin signed his new deal, he hasn’t been the most productive. While most can blame Jayden Daniels and Deebo Samuel’s new chemistry, this can’t be an excuse for why the quarterback can’t get the ball to his top receiver. With Luke McCaffrey and Jaylin Lane more effective in the slot, they could use the presence of Meyers since he has a ton of experience.

New England Patriots

However, the New England Patriots could reunite with Meyers. Head coach Mike Vrabel wants to rebuild, but he probably won’t reject the idea of getting another veteran wideout like did with Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins. The receiver depth chart is slowly decreasing, which is good news for Meyers if the Patriots do try to acquire him.
