Pro Bowl Tackle Signs Contract With Cincinnati Bengals

Trent Brown Contract

Nine-year veteran offensive tackle Trent Brown signed a new contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. Brown, a one-time Super Bowl champion and Pro Bowl selection, spent the 2023 season with the New England Patriots but has also played for the San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders.

Trent Brown, Cincinnati Bengals, Agree to Contract

Trent Brown was not the happiest camper in the final year of his contract. Playing for the New England Patriots, the offensive lineman made eight starts while appearing in 11 games. Brown clearly didn’t see eye to eye with the coaching staff, as there were reports of attitude and effort issues midway through the season. This all reached a boiling point when New England made Brown a healthy scratch near the end of the season, denying him a chance to earn a hefty playtime incentive. However, despite all this, he played well when on the field, finishing the year as the 11th-best tackle in the league, per Pro Football Focus.

Brown originally entered the league as a seventh-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Selected by the San Francisco 49ers, the behemoth right tackle needed some time to establish himself in the NFL. As a rookie, the Florida product appeared in just five games while making two starts.

Brown earned a starting job in 2016 and spent the next two years holding down the right side of San Francisco’s offensive line. However, the 49ers traded Trent Brown to the New England Patriots during the final year of his contract. Switching over to the left side, the 6′-8″, 370-pound tackle spent the season protecting Tom Brady’s blindside. He performed well in this role, providing some much-needed protection while playing a crucial role for the eventual Super Bowl champions.

Trent Brown used this success to cash in with a massive contract in free agency. This appeared to be a wise investment at first, as the offensive lineman made the Pro Bowl in 2019. However, after an injury-plagued 2020, the Raiders traded him back to New England.
