Potential Garrett Wilson Trade Destinations

February 5, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The New York Jets season did not go according to plan at all. The team went just 5-12, finishing third in the AFC East. With future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers taking over, the season was expected to go much better, with many hoping to win the division. The season did not play out this way and wide receiver Garrett Wilson grew increasingly frustrated. Towards the season’s conclusion, rumors swirled that Wilson would request a trade if Rodgers returned as quarterback. With the Jets’ plans at quarterback currently uncertain, it is worth exploring potential trade destinations for Garrett Wilson.

Potential Garrett Wilson Trade Destinations

With the Jets season being such a failure, the franchise might decide to part ways with numerous players. One of them could be young, star receiver Garrett Wilson. Aged 24, Wilson has had at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons in the NFL. Many franchises around the league could use this level of production, so which teams would be the best fit for Wilson if he is traded?

Washington Commanders

Garrett Wilson fits the Washington Commanders timeline very well. The Commanders proved this season that they are ready to win now even though they are extremely young. Wilson is a dynamic player who is ready to help a contender, and he is also young himself. Washington could use another elite receiver to pair with Terry McLaurin. The Commanders also have a lot of cap space if they are interested in signing Garrett Wilson long-term after making a trade for him. Pairing quarterback Jayden Daniels with Wilson and McLaurin would be a lethal trio and a nightmare for opposing defenses.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are entering the first season with head coach Mike Vrabel. Quarterback Drake Maye had a good rookie season even though the team struggled. Wilson could be a great wide receiver for Maye. The Patriots do not have any major weapons on offense which puts a lot of the burden on Maye. With Wilson, Maye would have a reliable target. The Patriots may have to entice the Jets a little more than other teams because these two are in the same division if they want to pursue a trade for Garrett Wilson.

Dallas Cowboys

With the Dallas Cowboys promoting offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to head coach, the team could look to add weapons to the offense. Garrett Wilson could fit this role and play alongside star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Outside of Lamb, the Cowboys are lacking weapons on offense. Quarterback Dak Prescott missed the majority of this season with a hamstring injury. However, this offense was struggling even before he went down. The need for another playmaker in Dallas is evident. Wilson could fit this offense perfectly as the Cowboys tend to be a pass-heavy team when Prescott is in at quarterback.

Although it is still unclear if Wilson will be moved, this is a situation that is worth monitoring. Wilson seemed unhappy at many times throughout the year and was rumored to not have the best relationship with Aaron Rodgers. If Garrett Wilson ends up getting traded, these three teams could use his services.
