Yet again the New England Patriots hosted a free agent workout at Gillette Stadium, this time featuring a familiar name.

According to Mike Reiss of ESPN, Jeremiah Dinson, Patrick Onwuasor, Corey Thompson, and Malik Gant, all worked out for New England on Saturday, likely as a way to keep the teams emergency lists fresh.

Dinson, 24, was a team captain and three-year starter at safety for Auburn; he left as the team’s leading tackler in 2019 before making the transition to the NFL. He spent his rookie season with both Miami and Detroit, splitting time between Matt Patricia and Brian Flores’ rosters throughout the summer.

Onwuasor, 28, is a six-year veteran of the NFL having spent time with both the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets. Initially signing with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent, Onwuasor carved out a role for himself as their defensive signal caller, eventually eventually earning a second round tender. He signed with New York in 2020 where he would only play in one game bookended by a couple of stints on injured reserve.

Thompson, 27, is a veteran of two seasons in the NFL, which he spent with the Buffalo Bills. Primarily an off-ball linebacker and special teamer, Thompson split his time between the Bills’ active roster and practice squad throughout his two seasons with the team.

Gant, 24, is a familiar name to fans in New England, having spent the entire 2019 offseason with the Patriots before injuring himself in the preseason finale and ending up on injured reserve. He returned in 2020 looking to make the team but was eventually cut to get the roster down to the 80 player threshold put forth during the NFL’s initial wave of Covid-19 restrictions.

The Patriots currently have one open spot on their roster.
