On Sunday, the New England Patriots will begin the 2021 season. In preparation, the organization made a few last-minute roster moves on Saturday.
The Patriots placed wide receiver Malcolm Perry on the injured reserve on Saturday. New England claimed Perry on waivers on Sept. 2.
“FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced that they have elevated K Nick Folk and QB Brian Hoyer to the 53-man roster from the practice squad,” the team announced via Patriots.com. “In addition, the Patriots placed WR Malcolm Perry on injured reserve. Perry was claimed off waivers from Miami on Sept. 2.”
Perry, as you might remember, played quarterback for Navy. He had 4,359 yards rushing, 1, 311 yards passing and 50 total touchdowns during his collegiate career. He recently suffered a foot injury with the Patriots and will now go to the injured reserve.

The Patriots will begin the Mac Jones era on Sunday. Jones, the former Alabama star quarterback, will replace former starter Cam Newton, who lost his job at the tail-end of preseason camp. New England then released Newton in the process.
Jones has all the tools to become a quality starting quarterback. His first major test will be to suppress the nerves and avoid turnovers. If he can play a clean game, the Patriots should come out of Sunday with a season-opening win.
Jones and the Patriots take on the Miami Dolphins at 4:25 p.m. ET.
