The New England Patriots made a plethora of marquee moves this offseason in an effort to bolster their offensive personnel. Unfortunately though, one of their top acquisitions will have to miss an extended period of time due to an injury.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, Patriots tight end Hunter Henry is expected to miss “a couple of weeks” with a shoulder injury. He suffered this injury last weekend and it’s not believed to be very serious.
“Patriots’ TE Hunter Henry now is expected to miss ‘a couple of weeks’ with the shoulder injury he suffered last weekend that is ‘not serious,’ per source,” Schefter reported on Twitter.
There’s no update on Henry’s status for New England’s season opener at this moment. Obviously, it’s a tad concerning that he’s already banged up before Week 1.
Last season, Henry had 60 receptions for 613 yards and four touchdowns. His production with the Los Angeles Chargers was strong enough to warrant a three-year, $37.5 million offer from the Patriots.

Even if the Patriots are without Henry for a few weeks to start the season, they still have an excellent tight end on the roster in Jonnu Smith. He also signed with the Patriots this offseason.
The Patriots will be on the field this Thursday for their preseason opener against the Washington Football Team. We’ll find out then if another tight end can step up during Henry’s absence.
