Patriots Star Has Telling Comment About Rookie QB Mac Jones

August 11, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

New England Patriots Practice

Earlier this offseason, the New England Patriots just had to wait during the 2021 NFL draft as former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones fell directly into their laps.

The No. 15 overall pick hasn’t exactly won the starting quarterback job just yet, but he’s looked the part of a first-round draft pick in training camp. Most of the reports coming out of Patriots camp suggest it’s just a matter of time until he takes over for Cam Newton.

Offensive lineman Trent Brown hasn’t been quiet about his praise for the rookie quarterback. On Tuesday afternoon, Brown spoke with reporters about what he’s seen from Jones thus far.

He thinks the former Crimson Tide standout has the chance to be “special.”

This isn’t the first time Brown has raved about the young quarterback. In fact, the offensive lineman knew Jones had the chance to be “special” weeks ago when asked by reporters about Jones.

“Mac, he’s a young guy, but you can’t really just refer to him as a young guy,” Brown said this week, via Ryan Hannable of WEEI. “You can tell he’s been at a place where [he’s] got some coaching. I think he’s going to be special here in the future.”

Will Jones be able to beat out Cam Newton for the starting quarterback role before the 2021 season kicks off?
