The New England Patriots are apparently bringing on a third quarterback ahead of Sunday’s game against the rival New York Jets.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Patriots are signing veteran Will Grier to their active roster today. Grier has been on the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad but has not played since 2019.
The last time Grier saw action was as a rookie with the Carolina Panthers. He went 0-2 as a starter with 53.8-percent of his passes completed for 228 yards and no touchdowns with four interceptions.
Grier spent the last two seasons as the third-string quarterback in Dallas and appeared primed to be elevated to the backup ahead of this season. But the Cowboys’ trade for Trey Lance just before the season resulted in Grier being released.

It would be very surprising if Will Grier was active on gameday for the New England Patriots, let alone if he saw the field.
But anything can happen in the NFL.
