Patriots Signed Two Quarterbacks To Their Practice Squad Today

For a little while it appeared that the New England Patriots would be heading into the 2023 season with only Mac Jones in their quarterbacks room. But after some moves they made today, the Patriots will be giving him some company.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Patriots have signed two quarterbacks to their practice squad today. They’ll be adding Malik Cunningham and Bailey Zappe to their practice squad.

Cunningham was a breakout star of the 2023 preseason, putting up numerous strong performances with both his arm and his legs.

Zappe thrived as a rookie in the absence of Mac Jones, going 2-0 as a starter and completing 70.7-percent of his passes for 781 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions.

As is Malik Cunningham. So even though Mac Jones is the only QB on the Patriots’ roster, they now will have two QBs on their practice squad. https://t.co/2AgftZQSvj

There’s no position more critical to the Patriots heading into 2023 than the quarterback position. Since Tom Brady’s departure, their seasons have been made and broken on the back (or in this case arm) of their quarterbacks.

The Patriots have done everything in their power to build their team around Mac Jones heading into this campaign. But if anything happens to Jones, they need a contingency plan – and a damn good one to boot.

Are the Patriots set at quarterback?
