
Offensive tackle Derwin Gray went No. 219 overall in the 2019 NFL draft.
The New England Patriots hosted four free agents for workouts on Tuesday, including former Pittsburgh Steelers draft pick Derwin Gray, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN
Gray, 26, entered the NFL in the seventh round of the 2019 draft at No. 219 overall. The offensive tackle by way of Maryland appeared in five games for Pittsburgh last season. He would be claimed off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars in December and began September on the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad.
Running back Nathan Contrell, guard Jordan Meredith and defensive back Linden Stephens also reportedly visited Gillette Stadium.
Cottrell, 25, went undrafted out of Georgia Tech in 2020. He spent his rookie season with Jacksonville on both the practice squad and active roster, appearing in eight games and returning seven kickoffs for 123 yards. Cottrell was released from the Jaguars’ practice squad last week.
Meredith, 23, signed with the Los Angeles Rams as a rookie free agent following the 2021 draft. The Western Kentucky product was waived at the NFL roster deadline in August.
Stephens, 26, entered the league as part of the New Orleans Saints’ 2018 undrafted class. The cornerback by way of Cincinnati has also been a member of Rams, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins and Washington Football Team. Through 16 career games, Stephens has recorded six tackles. He played 36 percent of Seattle’s snaps on special teams last season.
New England currently stands with an active roster of 52 and a practice squad of 16.
