The Patriots are signing a familiar face at defensive end for the 2023 season.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Patriots have agreed to a deal with pass rusher Trey Flowers.
Flowers started his NFL career in 2015 with the Patriots. He won two Super Bowls before signing a five-year, $90 million deal with the Lions in the 2019 offseason.
The Lions eventually released Flowers in March of 2022. Several months later, he agreed to a deal with the Dolphins.
Injuries have plagued Flowers over the past few years, which is partially why he hasn’t played that well since leaving New England.
In four years with the Patriots, Flowers racked up 164 tackles, 59 quarterback hits and 21 sacks. Since leaving in 2019, he has only recorded 101 tackles and 10.5 sacks.

Perhaps a reunion with Bill Belichick is exactly what Flowers needs to revitalize his career.
Flowers will join a defensive front that features Matthew Judon, Davon Godchaux, Josh Uche, Deatrich Wise, Keion White and Anfernee Jennings among others.
