McAdoo will be just the third coach from last year’s staff set to return.

The New England Patriots are retaining senior offensive assistant Ben McAdoo on their coaching staff in 2025, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

McAdoo’s return will mark just the third reported holdover from last year’s coaching staff, joining special teams coaches Jeremy Springer and Tom Quinn.

In his first year with the organization last season, McAdoo had a vague role on Jerod Mayo’s staff. Beyond playing a hand in both Drake Maye and Joe Milton’s development, the veteran coach held a role in New England’s offensive third-down packages each week.

Now returning under Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, McAdoo’s exact title or role is unknown.

McAdoo spent the early portions of his NFL coaching career rising through the ranks as a positional coach before becoming the New York Giants offensive coordinator in 2014. After two years in that role, he was hired as the team’s head coach.

Prior to joining the Patriots in 2024 after a year out of football, McAdoo spent three years with three different teams as a quarterbacks coach, consultant, and offensive coordinator.

He will now be the fourth former head coach on Vrabel’s staff, joining Doug Marrone, McDaniels, and interim Thomas Brown.
