Free-agent running back Dalvin Cook is still on the hunt for his new team ahead of the 2023 NFL season.
Rumors have linked Cook to a possible partnership with the New England Patriots, a team that’s been looking to revamp its offensive roster after missing the playoffs in 2022.
During Wednesday’s episode of SportsCenter, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler said the Patriots are “intrigued” by the idea of adding Cook.
“My sense after asking around is the Patriots are at least intrigued,” Fowler said. “They have a bit of a need at running back because they released James Robinson, so they want a back they can pair with Rhamondre Stevenson. And Bill Belichick does sense the urgency — that’s why they’ve been on DeAndre Hopkins, too — an urgency to improve that offense.”
The Patriots’ division rival Miami Dolphins have been thought of as a favorite to land Cook since he was released by the Vikings earlier this offseason. Fowler also named the New York Jets as a possible landing spot, making an AFC East destination very likely.
Any potential signing for Cook likely won’t occur until closer to the start of training camp in late July.
