The New England Patriots have reportedly hired a new coach to their coaching staff.
According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the Patriots are hiring Wall Lawing. Lawing has a longtime connection to new offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien after he worked with him for the last two seasons when they were both at Alabama.
He was also with O’Brien when the latter was the head coach at Penn State and when he was the head coach of the Houston Texans.
Lawing was floated as a potential hire last week after O’Brien accepted the offensive coordinator job. It will be O’Brien’s second stint with the Patriots after he was with them from 2007-11.
Lawing has held numerous positions under O’Brien, including tight ends coach, defensive quality control coach, and offensive analyst.
The Patriots will be hoping that both of them can help turn their offense around next season after the unit struggled mightily in 2022.
