Davis is the third addition to the defensive side of the ball.
The New England Patriots have added another member to their defense, agreeing on a deal with free agent cornerback Carlton Davis.
According to NFL Media, the three-year deal is worth $60 million total with $34.5 million fully guaranteed.
The 28-year old was one of the top corners on the market after a bounce back season in Detroit last year. Appearing in 13 games, Davis had two interceptions and 11 pass deflections before a broken jaw prematurely ended his season.
Prior to this season in Detroit, Davis spent the first six years of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He recorded 73 pass deflections over his tenure and was a key piece of their secondary on Tampa’s Super Bowl LV championship team.
Coming from Detroit, in which he played one of the highest rates of man coverage in the league, Davis will now provide a strong complement to Christian Gonzalez in New England’s secondary as a high-end No. 2 cornerback.
Davis marks the third player New England has added to the defense in free agency joining pass rusher Harold Landry and linebacker Robert Spillane. After being in Detroit last year with new Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams, the addition of Davis also continues a trend of New England adding players with familiarity to their staff — a similar approach the Washington Commanders took in free agency last year.
