New England keeps adding to its coaching staff.
Even with their players on their summer break, the New England Patriots are keeping busy preparing the team for the future both on and off the field. The latest moves in that regard saw the addition of two new scouting assistants, both of whom former players.
Cam McCormick and Ben Langford will be part of the Patriots’ scouting operation moving forward according to reports by Joseph Pasteris and Ari Meinov.
McCormick originally went undrafted earlier this offseason after a record nine years playing college football. He started out at Oregon in 2016 before a two-year stint in Miami. However, due to a variety of injuries plus the NCAA’s Covid-19 exemption, he was allowed to extend his career on multiple occasions. Still, the former tight end saw action in only 55 games and caught 32 passes for 273 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Langford was a two-time second-team All-LSC selection during his time as a linebacker at Eastern New Mexico. He later joined the Greyhounds’ coaching staff working with linebackers, running backs and wide receivers. In 2019, he left the coaching profession to join the US Army on a four-year employment at Fort Bragg, NC. He returned to football in 2023, first as special teams coordinator with the Fehérvár Enthroners of the European League of Football and subsequently as linebackers coach and co-special teams coordinator at New Mexico Highlands.
The additions of McCormick and Langford bring more turnover to a scouting staff that already saw a change at both the pro and the college scouting director positions. A.J. Highsmith and Tony Kinkela will be leading those departments in 2025.
