Original story 3/13/2025: Patriots to release longtime starting center David Andrews, per report

The New England Patriots are saying goodbye to another franchise cornerstone. David Andrews, who has been with the team since 2015, will be released by the team on Thursday.

Mike Reiss of ESPN was first to report the news.

Andrews, 32, originally arrived in New England as a rookie free agent out of Georgia. Despite his lack of draft pedigree, he earned starting reps in his first season and by Year 2 took over full-time as the Patriots’ center. He never looked back

Over the course of his 10 years with the organization, Andrews was able to amass 136 in-game appearances, including 131 starts, and helped the Patriots win a pair of Super Bowls. He was also named a member of the team’s All-Decade Team of the 2010s.

An eight-time captain, Andrews was one of the few holdovers of the team’s dynasty era that was still part of the organization entering 2025. However, he will now have to continue his career with another team — becoming the third such player to depart within the last 24 hours, joining fellow ex-champs Jonathan Jones and Deatrich Wise Jr.

Turning 33 in July and coming off season-ending shoulder injury, the Patriots under new head coach Mike Vrabel will officially hand the keys over to a new starting center. Who that will be remains to be seen, with in-house candidates including Cole Strange, Ben Brown and Jake Andrews.
