Before the Patriots held their first padded practice of training camp this week, running back Rhamondre Stevenson told reporters that he couldn’t wait to get out on the field. And yet, he was limited during Wednesday’s session.
Stevenson was asked why he’s not a full participant in practice. His response was interesting to say the least.
“Honestly, you gotta ask Bill Belichick,” Stevenson said with a smile. “I don’t know why I’m not practicing. You got to ask Bill, really.”
Stevenson reiterated that he wants to take on a full workload for padded practices.
“I’m itching to get in there, especially when we have pads on. When we don’t have pads on, I’m not itching as much. But since the pads are on and stuff, yeah, I’m itching to get out there.”

Stevenson didn’t make any comments he could regret in the future, which is always a good thing.
If the Patriots are going to have success running the football this fall, they’ll need Stevenson to replicate his success from 2022. The Oklahoma product finished last season with 1,040 rushing yards and five touchdowns. He also had 69 receptions for 421 yards.
We’ll see if Stevenson’s workload at practice ramps up over the next few days.
