The New England Patriots’ risk at the quarterback position seems likely to have paid off.
They initially only kept one quarterback on their 53-man roster (Mac Jones) after cutting both Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham.
It left them in a pickle but now that Zappe has cleared waivers and is likely to return to the team on the practice squad, per ESPN’s Field Yates.

Having Zappe back up Jones will be good news for the Patriots since he got some playing time last year. He appeared in four games and completed 70.7% of his passes for 781 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Yes, it’s a small sample size but those are some solid numbers for a quarterback heading into his second year in the league.
If he does re-sign with the Patriots, he can continue to develop in their system and can also be ready to go if his name is called upon.
