Eventually, the legendary Bill Belichick will announce his retirement from coaching. Fortunately for the Patriots, that day hasn’t arrived yet.
That being said, one of the most respected Patriots reporters thinks Belichick will retire within the next two years.
While on NBC Sports’ Patriots Talk podcast, Tom E. Curran predicted that Belichick will retire after the 2024 season.
Curran envisions Belichick breaking the NFL’s all-time coaching wins record before riding off into the sunset.
“I do think they’ll find success with (Bill) O’Brien, and by the end of 2024, he will have caught Shula,” Curran said. “After 2024, he will move upstairs — this is full-on predictions, not guesses — he’ll move onto more of an advisory role and Jerod Mayo will take over as head coach.”
Belichick is only 18 wins behind Shula for the record.
The thought of Belichick retiring after he claims this record isn’t crazy. On the other hand, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he decides to stay on the sidelines well past 2024.
