The Patriots added a new face to their quarterback room this Thursday in the form of Ole Miss product Matt Corral.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Patriots claimed Corral off waivers. He was waived by the Panthers on Wednesday.
Corral was selected by the Panthers in the third round of the 2022 draft. His rookie campaign ended before it ever started due to a season-ending Lisfranc injury.
Even though the Panthers parted ways with Corral this week, head coach Frank Reich had nothing but good things to say about him.
“Matt’s incredibly athletic,” Reich said, via ESPN. “He’s got a really strong arm. He’s worked as hard as anyone in the building. He spent a lot of time in this building. … So happy with the progress he’s made, and he’s had a lot of snaps in the preseason and he’s done a good job.”

Corral will join a roster in New England that is lacking proven talent at the quarterback position.
The Patriots feel comfortable with Mac Jones as their starter, there’s no doubt about that. The rest of the depth chart, however, is questionable at best.
After all, the Patriots cut Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham before signing them back to the practice squad.
