The Patriots insider spoke about the team’s approach on Friday.
The New England Patriots lead the NFL in salary cap space, and they have intentions to be aggressive, at least according to ESPN insider Mike Reiss. While it remains to be seen whether or not the team will be able to execute its plan, Reiss believes that the 2025 free agency period will resemble 2021’s spending spree.

Back in 2021, the Patriots came swinging right out of the gate. They started off free agency by signing several big-name players within the first 24 hours of the legal tampering period starting, including tight ends Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry, defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, outside linebacker Matthew Judon, wide receiver Kendrick Bourne and defensive back Jalen Mills.
Those investments provided only a short-term fix in the grand scheme of things, but the intention was clear: the Patriots had money to spend, and they did so. Whether or not 2025 will be more of the same will be seen, starting on Monday.
