In addition, wide receiver Malcolm Perry has been placed on injured reserve.
Quarterback Brian Hoyer and kicker Nick Folk have been called up to the gameday roster for Sunday’s 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff at Gillette Stadium, according to the NFL transaction wire.
Hoyer, 35, will operate as the lone backup to No. 15 overall pick Mac Jones in his starting debut under center. And Folk, 36, will provide flexibility alongside rookie kicker Quinn Nordin, who continued New England’s undrafted streak as the league’s roster deadline passed.
Both vested veterans are scheduled to revert back to the 16-man practice squad on Monday. Both are eligible to serve as standard elevations once more during the regular season before 53-man agreements would be required under the league’s 2020 addendum.
The Patriots listed four as questionable and ruled out former Dolphins wide receiver Malcolm Perry on the final Week 1 injury report due to foot issue.
Perry, 24, has since been placed on injured reserve. The Navy product, who was claimed off waivers as the calendar turned to September, will miss a minimum of three games.
