The New England Patriots may have lost a defensive contributor for the foreseeable future.
According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale suffered a torn biceps during Sunday’s 15-10 victory over the New York Jets. The team is still awaiting the results of more tests.
The initial diagnosis on DT Daniel Ekuale is a torn biceps, according to a source. Still awaiting more tests to confirm but the Patriots are bracing for the loss of their sub-rushing veteran who has shown a knack for creating interior disruption.

Ekuale collected two sacks and 14 tackles when playing a career-high 15 games for New England last season. He forced a fumble during one of 10 snaps played in Week 3’s win.
The 300-pound defender has helped New England’s ninth-ranked rushing defense limit its first three opponents to 3.6 yards per carry. Dalvin Cook and Breece Hall each mustered just 18 rushing yards on a combined 20 handoffs.
According to Pro Football Focus, Ekuale leads all Patriots interior defenders with a 72.0 grade (considered above-average) against the run. Davon Godchaux, the runner-up at 53.3, also exited their latest game. The status of his injured ankle remains undetermined.
Bill Belichick may have to rely on Christian Barmore and Lawrence Guy Sr.
The depleted unit will quickly receive a fierce depth when combatting the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4. New England’s schedule also won’t get any easier when closing October with AFC East showdowns against the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins.
