The New England Patriots did some roster upkeep on Monday, getting rid of a pair of quarterbacks.
First, New England waived Matt Corral from the exempt/left squad list. The Patriots also released Ian Book from the practice squad.
Corral, a third-round pick of the Carolina Panthers out of Ole Miss in 2022, was picked up off waivers by the Patriots in late August. On Sept. 9, he was placed on the exempt/left list after leaving the team facility without notice and failing to report for two straight days.
Book, meanwhile, was signed to the practice squad last week. A 2021 fourth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints, Book spent last season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

All of this is a long-winded way of saying that the Patriots’ quarterback depth chart remains unchanged, with Mac Jones as the starter and Bailey Zappe as his backup.
Jones threw for 231 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday night’s 24-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Through two games, the 2021 first-rounder has passed for 547 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.
