The Patriots have a very productive running back on their roster in Rhamondre Stevenson. However, that won’t stop the front office from potentially improving that position group before Week 1.
On Wednesday, a director of player personnel for the Patriots was very open about Dalvin Cook being a free agent.
“Patriots director of player personnel discussed FA RB Dalvin Cook,” Patriots reporter Doug Kyed tweeted. “Said it’s unique to see a player of his talent available at this time of year. Noted they got to see him on Thanksgiving last year.”
Cook, a perennial Pro Bowler, was released by the Vikings this summer. He has been linked to just about every team in the AFC East.
If the Patriots want to sign Cook and avoid facing him twice this upcoming season, they’ll need to make a fairly strong offer.

Cook was productive for the Vikings in 2022, rushing for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns. He also had 39 receptions for 295 yards and two scores.
During a recent interview, Cook announced that he’s in no rush to pick his next team.
“At this moment, it’s kinda just taking my time and being patient with the process,” Cook said. “You can’t rush this. This is a life decision… I’m just taking my time, and I’m not rushing it. When I make that decision, it’s going to be right for me and my family.”
