The Patriots could deploy a two-quarterback system this Sunday against the Raiders.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Patriots have signed Malik Cunningham to their 53-man roster. It’s not a standard elevation for the Louisville product. He’s actually receiving a three-year contract.
Cunningham was on the Patriots’ practice squad coming into this Saturday. However, head coach Bill Belichick told reporters Friday that Cunningham is “definitely trending towards” playing this weekend.
It’s unclear how the Patriots will utilize Cunningham. He showed in the preseason that he can play quarterback wide receiver.
Rather than an elevation, Malik Cunningham is being signed to the 53-man roster with a three-year deal, source said. https://t.co/4laeepzref

During his Louisville career, Cunningham had 9,664 passing yards and 70 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. He also had 3,182 yards and 50 scores on the ground.
It’s no secret that New England’s offense has looked anemic this season. Though it sounds too crazy to be true, the Patriots have scored just three points in the past two games.
We’ll see if Cunningham can give the Patriots a much-needed spark this Sunday.
