The New England Patriots are expected to hire Buffalo Bills nickelbacks coach and senior defensive assistant Scott Booker, according to a report Wednesday from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Booker spent 2024 with the 13-4 AFC East champions en route to an appearance in the AFC title game. Prior to then, he had been on the staff of the Tennessee Titans from 2018 through 2023.
His time in Nashville began with two seasons as a defensive assistant before spending the next four seasons as safeties coach, working alongside the likes of Kenny Vaccaro, Amani Hooker and past Pro Bowler and AP NFL first-team All-Pro Kevin Byard — plus new defensive coordinator Terrell Williams.
A four-year letterwinner in Dean Pees’ Kent State defensive backfield, Booker earned his bachelor’s degree in 2003 and master’s degree in 2006. The former MAC All-Academic selection started his coaching career with the Golden Flashes, going from a graduate assistant to the team’s secondary coach before joining Western Kentucky under the same title in 2009.
Booker went on to log seven campaigns at Notre Dame, initially as an offensive intern and later as tight ends coach and special teams coordinator. He then entered Nebraska’s fold as safeties and special teams coach in 2017 on the way to the NFL ranks.
ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported Tuesday that Brian Belichick, New England’s safeties coach since 2020, and cornerbacks coach Mike Pellegrino, the cornerbacks coach since 2019, would not be returning for 2025.
