The New England Patriots seem to have a new No. 1 receiver, if money serves as any indicator. New England made receiver Nelson Agholor the top-paid option on the team during free agency.
His status as WR1 would be something of a surprise if the Patriots hadn’t signed tight ends Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry in free agency, with deals that tied them as the third highest-paid players at their position. Clearly, those two tight ends will be at the center of the offense, whether New England is passing or running. They will take some pressure off Agholor, who isn’t a true WR, judging from his film and production.
But a team needs receivers, no matter how good its tight ends are. And so the Patriots will surely look to Agholor to take over a significant role in 2021. Here’s what you need to know about the speedy slot receiver ahead of Patriots training camp.
