Nic Scourton becomes latest edge prospect visiting with Patriots

The Texas A&M defender projects as a fringe first-round pick in this year’s draft.

The New England Patriots are expressing a keen interest in this year’s defensive edge class. After already setting up pre-draft visits with Penn State’s Abdul Carter and UCLA’s Oluwafemi Oladejo, they are now set to host a third player at the position at Gillette Stadium.

Nic Scourton, who split his college career between Purdue and Texas A&M, is set to take a 30 visit with the club “in the coming weeks.” Ryan Fowler of the Draft Network was first to report the upcoming meeting.

Scourton, 20, projects as a late first- or early second-round selection in this month’s draft. After a two-year stint with the Boilermakers that saw him register 12 sacks and three forced fumbles, and earn second-team All-Big Ten honors in 2023, he transferred to Texas A&M and immediately produced another high-quality campaign.

His lone season with the Aggies ended with 5 sacks in 12 games and first-team All-SEC honors. Scourton then decided to forgo his senior year to take to the NFL Draft.

Standing at just under 6-foot-3 and 257 pounds, he projects as a positionally-flexible defensive lineman whose strengths lie in the passing game. In New England, he would join an edge group currently headlined by Harold Landry and Anfernee Jennings, the latter primarily an early-down player.

Scourton, who also met with the Patriots at the Scouting Combine, is the team’s 10th reported 30 visit so far this pre-draft cycle.
