The New England Patriots added another quarterback to the fold on Thursday.
New England has signed Trace McSorley, who appeared in six games and made one start for the Arizona Cardinals in 2022. McSorley projects to fit in behind Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe on the depth chart.
While this is a small-scale signing, it has generated a surprising amount of reaction on social media.
“It’s a one-year deal for McSorley. Patriots had been looking for a mobile third QB throughout free agency,” said ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“Bill O’Brien recruited him to Penn State and McSorley played with new #Patriots tight end Mike Gesicki,” noted Ben Belford-Peltzman of Patriots Beat.

“Pats will still draft a QB in the fifth round,” said WBZ News Radio’s Adam Kaufman.

There were also a number of references to McSorley being able to “throw it on a dime,” a lyric from Matty Fresh’s rap song about the quarterback, a little ditty I did not know existed until today.
A former star at Penn State, McSorley was a sixth-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2019. In nine career NFL games, he’s thrown for 502 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions.
