The Patriots made a huge splash this Friday, signing former Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki to a one-year deal worth up to $9 million.
Gesicki, a former second-round pick out of Penn State, spent five seasons with the Dolphins. He had 231 receptions for 2,617 yards and 18 touchdowns.
In 2022, Gesicki’s production dipped since he was in a new offensive system. The focus in Miami shifted over to its wide receivers and running backs.
That being said, the NFL world wouldn’t be surprised to see Gesicki have a resurgent year in New England.
“Thank you for your time with the Miami Dolphins Mike Gesicki. Good luck to you in your new home (except when you’re playing the Fins),” a Dolphins fan said.
“Good riddance,” another Dolphins fan tweeted.
“Patriots are making a lot of moves for Mac Jones,” a Twitter user added.
Gesicki will join a roster that already has Hunter Henry at tight end.
It’ll be interesting to see how Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien utilizes Henry and Gesicki this fall.
