Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots have garnered more head scratches than applause with their draft selections over the past few Aprils.
And that didn’t change over the weekend.
The Pats draft was widely panned by analysts and critics. Led by the curious pick of Chattanooga guard Cole Strange in Round 1. Here’s a taste of what the NFL world had to say about Belichick’s selections:
“Bill Belichick every draft,” SB Nation tweeted.

“Bill Belichick has made the two weirdest 1st/2nd round picks I can ever remember in an NFL Draft – two bizarre reaches,” commented FS1’s Skip Bayless. “Brady MADE Belichick, who is now desperately trying to recreate his ‘genius’ without Brady.”

“So Bill Belichick drafted a projected 3rd round draft pick with the 29th overall, after drafting the 21st.. New England Patriots football is back,” said one user.

“The Patriots passed on arguably the best corner in the draft for a guard most had mocked in the third round,” tweeted Adam Kaufman. “Peak Bill Belichick, who turned 70 earlier this month.”

“Bill Belichick was asked if he felt the Patriots might be able to draft Cole Strange with their next pick (No. 54 overall), instead of taking him at 29th overall,” said CBS Boston’s Michael Hurley. “Bill did not believe so. ‘Yeah … he wouldn’t have lasted much longer.’”
