Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has a big decision to make about the 2023 season. But one of those decisions might have been settled after Tom Brady’s announcement today.
With Brady announcing his retirement on Wednesday, the wider NFL world is convinced that Rodgers will not be retiring. On top of the litany of financial incentives that Rodgers already has to stay, the fact that Brady is now retired further discourages Rodgers from retiring since he would be playing second-fiddle to Brady at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2028.
“He was never giving up $60M guaranteed regardless but there’s now a 0.0% chance Aaron Rodgers retires and plays second fiddle to the Tom Brady Hall of Fame celebration 5 years from now,” former NFL player Ross Tucker pointed out on Twitter.
Many fans seem to agree that Rodgers is unlikely to retire if he can’t be the feature attraction in Canton the day he gets inducted. Though they’re still divided on whether that means he plays the next couple of years in Green Bay or not:
It’s believed that the relationship between Rodgers and the Packers is fracturing, but so little information is coming out that nobody can really say for sure whether they’ll stay together or not moving forward.
One thing does seem clear though: Rodgers has all of the reason in the world to play for somebody in 2023.
