The New England Patriots have made a lot of big additions to their offense this offseason. But one player that has already been making an impact for the Patriots is now getting rewarded for it.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Patriots are signing wide receiver DeVante Parker to a three-year contract extension worth up to $33 million. The deal reportedly includes around $14 million in guarantees and roster bonuses.
Last year Parker had 31 receptions for 539 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games for the Patriots.
Fans are a bit mixed on what this deal might mean. Some feel that it could be a precursor to the team signing wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins while others think it’s the opposite. Still others believe that Parker made off like a bandit here:
Parker’s injury history is well-documented, but he was a difference-maker downfield when healthy. Closed minicamp on a high note and was the #Patriots only consistent contributor at WR
He’s also NE’s only true X, and if DeAndre Hopkins signs I think he’s best suited at Z https://t.co/XIUuiIQwDX

Oh wow! Did not see that coming with the speculation that a WR could be out the door if the Patriots add Hopkins. But I am glad to see it!
The Pats has plenty of future cap space and DeVante Parker was good when healthy last season. Can’t wait to see him this year with a real OC https://t.co/PyWp5puZZd

This is an amazing deal for Devante Parker, that’s for sure https://t.co/7CDld8UiJ5

At least we know that DeAndre Hopkins will have a chance to land somewhere more attractive than New England… Man, Jimmy Gould out here working miracles for his players! Parker can’t even find a home in many fantasy football dynasty leagues! https://t.co/TBMIpZQrxi

In eight NFL seasons, the first seven of which came with the Miami Dolphins, DeVante Parker has 369 receptions for 5,266 yards and 27 touchdowns.
While he’s never made the Pro Bowl, Parker did have a superb 2019 season that included 72 receptions for 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns.
If he can regain that form with the Patriots, he’ll prove worthy of that big contract in short order.
