With their 53-man roster due by tomorrow afternoon, the New England Patriots released a quarterback on Monday.
Former Penn State star and Cardinals and Ravens backup Trace McSorley got the axe this afternoon, leaving Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe and undrafted rookie Malik Cunningham as the three signal callers left on the New England roster.
“An unsurprising move for the Patriots. McSorley hardly saw any game action this preseason and didn’t get many practice reps, either, over the final few weeks of camp,” said NESN’s Zack Cox.

Others have taken to Twitter to wonder about what the ramifications of McSorley’s release will be.
“Malik Cunningham might actually make the Patriots’ 53-man roster,” said U of L Report’s Matt McGavic about the former Louisville standout.

“Trace continuing his career away from those people is the best-case scenario,” added a Penn State fan.

Other people took to posting some of the lyrics to the rap song Matty Fresh made about McSorley back when he played at Penn State.

McSorley has thrown for 502 yards, one touchdown and five interception in nine career NFL games.
It is possible he sticks around in New England on the Patriots’ practice squad, or perhaps another team will bring him in once cuts are finalized around the league by Tuesday’s deadline.
