Earlier this week the New England Patriots made a series of interesting quarterback moves.
The team released quarterbacks Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham – both of whom played well during the preseason. The move left the Patriots with only one quarterback on the active roster: Mac Jones.
Fast-forward to a few days later and both Zappe and Cunningham are back in New England, but this time on the practice squad. So, who will back up Jones in 2023?
Well, on Thursday afternoon the Patriots made another interesting quarterback move. The team claimed former Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Corral.
Fans flocked to social media to react to the latest roster move.
“Pretty hilarious. Panthers traded up with the Patriots in the 2022 Draft to get Corral. Year later, Panthers waive him and Patriots claim him,” one person said.

“I think this was the best for Matt Corral and Carolina. Belichick did come out earlier this week and say that he wants to find a veteran backup for Mac Jones but Carolina and Corral needed to move since it’s clear he didn’t have a long term future here. Wish him all the best,” added another.
“So we traded our 3rd and 4th round pick to patriots for Matt corral…and they also got to keep Matt Corral,” said a furious Panthers fan.
What do you think of the move?
