Could New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick be leaving in the exceptionally rare head coaching trade? One rumor suggests he may.
On Wednesday, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk claimed he “heard something over the weekend” that suggested that the Washington Commanders could try to trade for Belichick in the offseason. He had some interesting rationales for who might have wanted information like that to get out.
But the gist of the argument is that the Patriots might want to get something in exchange for Belichick while the Commanders want to make a big splash with their new ownership group.
NFL fans are not entirely convinced of the idea. However, Patriots fans are more than happy to indulge it so long as the conversation begins with some first-round draft picks.
This would be wild.
That being said, couple firsts should start the conversation https://t.co/LVhxtzj5Na

Boy would this solidify years of losing.
Just such an asinine concept to go back pre-Belichick. 30% of the nfl is consistently firing/ hiring coaches and shocker, it almost always fails.
The NFL hires the same 20 coaches, you are literally just asking to suck for 10+ years. https://t.co/i3rMXIUfKq

Since 1997 there have been only seven head coaching trades. Ironically, Belichick himself was a part of one when the New York Jets traded him to New England in 2000.
Since then, the trades have included Jon Gruden to the Buccaneers, Herm Edwards to the Kansas City Chiefs, Bruce Arians to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Sean Payton to the Denver Broncos. Two of those trades immediately resulted in Super Bowl wins.
Will Belichick be traded?
