Morgan Moses more than a short-term fix at Patriots’ right tackle spot, contract details show

The Patriots signed the veteran offensive tackle to a three-year, $24 million contract in free agency.

Offensive tackle was the New England Patriots’ biggest need entering free agency, and they wasted little time addressing it — at least in part: while the left tackle spot still remains a question mark, the team signed veteran Morgan Moses to take over on the right side.

The Patriots being attracted to Moses was no surprise. Not only was he arguably the best right tackle on the market, he also seems to fit the mold of what the team is looking for from a cultural perspective. As a consequence, the 34-year-old was signed to a multi-year contract that shows he is more than a short-term fix at the position.

The contract details as first reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston and additionally broken down by salary cap expert Miguel Benzan illustrate that Moses is unlikely to be going anywhere anytime soon.

OT Morgan Moses: Contract details

2025:
Base salary: $2,300,000
Signing bonus: $1,400,000
Roster bonus: $850,000
Workout bonus: $150,000
Incentives: $1,500,000
Salary cap hit: $4,550,000

2026:
Base salary: $6,500,000
Signing bonus: $1,400,000
Roster bonus: $850,000
Workout bonus: $150,000
Incentives: $1,500,000
Salary cap hit: $8,900,000

2027:
Base salary: $8,000,000
Signing bonus: $1,400,000
Roster bonus: $850,000
Workout bonus: $150,000
Incentives: $1,500,000
Salary cap hit: $10,400,000

The Patriots made a significant investment in Moses, and a look at the guarantees associated with his pact makes this clear. Besides his $4.2 million signing bonus prorated over the length of the contract, the team also guaranteed the entirety of his $2.3 million salary this year as well as $4.5 million of his 2026 salary.

This means that Moses is virtually locked into a roster spot for the next two seasons. This, in turn, can be interpreted as a sign that New England is not confident a new right tackle is just about to emerge and take over in 2026.

Whether something like that will happen or not is, obviously, speculation at this point in time. Still, what can be said with confidence is that the Patriots felt strongly about Moses as a program fit and a player capable of performing at a high level even deep into his 30s.
