Mike Florio Thinks Longtime NFL Coach Will Be On Hot Seat With Losing Season In 2023

Social media’s preeminent NFL hot take machine has a new one fresh out of the oven.

Appearing on NBC Sports, ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio made a bold prediction for the 2023 NFL. He said that New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick could be on the hot seat if the team doesn’t turn things around before the 2024 season.

“My gut tells me that they need to turn things around this year or 2024 will be hot-seat season,” Florio said.

NFL fans aren’t buying this for a second though. Just about everyone who has seen this take have dismissed it as an effort by Florio to try and stir up a story where none exists.

The idea of Bill Belichick being at risk of losing his job is ludicrous. He’s the highest paid head coach in football and still runs circles around half of his opponents on a yearly basis.

Even if the Patriots finish 2023 with a losing season, it’s highly unlikely that Belichick will be blamed for their shortcomings.

With six Super Bowl wins, nine appearances and nearly 20 trips to the playoffs in his 23 years in New England, Belichick is basically there on a lifetime contract. He’s only leaving if he resigns or something so insane happens off the field that owner Robert Kraft has to fire him.

But no on-field results in 2023 are going to influence Bill Belichick’s standing in the organization heading into 2024.
