Tom Brady returns to Gillette Stadium with the New England Patriots honoring him during Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Mac Jones discussed his iconic predecessor ahead of the home welcoming.
On WEEI’s Jones and Mego, Jones said he’s always aimed to learn from the seven-time Super Bowl champion.
“He’s definitely a legend,” Mac said of Brady. “I have all the respect for him, he’s a great guy. He’s actually helped me a lot already just talking to him … He’s been a great mentor and stuff.”

Jones joined New England a year after Brady went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but veteran Brian Hoyer passed along some lessons from the future Hall of Famer.
“Whether it was Hoyer that was here, whoever, you meet a lot of people that have known him and everything, the stories… so that always helps,” Jones said when asked about his relationship with Brady. “Just being able to learn from that. He’s always on the film like I said, so just watching the footwork, the timing, his operation of everything. He’s definitely the greatest to do it, and that’s why you want to watch him and learn.”
While they never played together, Jones faced Brady’s Buccaneers as a rookie in 2021. Jones gained more passing yards (275) than Brady (269) with two touchdowns in a 19-17 loss.
Earlier this summer, former Pats defensive back Devin McCourty posted a photo with the two quarterbacks. Perhaps Jones, who turned 25 on Tuesday, gained some wisdom from the 46-year-old.
After a subpar second season, Jones will look to begin 2023 on a brighter note in front of Brady when facing the defending NFC champions.
