After a frustrating 2022 season, the Patriots brought in QB guru Bill O’Brien to be their new offensive coordinator and guide Pro Bowl quarterback Mac Jones. By the looks of things, Jones is pretty stoked for it.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Jones spoke about all of the improvements that he’s enjoyed since he started working with O’Brien. He praised O’Brien for developing the likes of Bryce Young in college, Deshaun Watson in the NFL and various quarterbacks at Penn State.
Jones could not stop gushing over how knowledgeable O’Brien is and how quickly he’s learning everything that O’Brien has to teach him.
“I feel like for me, it’s just being a sponge,” Jones said, via ProFootballTalk. “Whatever quarterback he’s coached, I can learn from — whether that’s Bryce [Young] or Deshaun [Watson], or at Penn State — he has such great experience in this league and in the football world. It’s like a walking dictionary, you just pick his brain and see the game how he sees it and how I see it. And then come together and mesh and create a really good offense.”

After making the Pro Bowl and finishing as Rookie of the Year runner-up in 2021, Jones struggled in almost all areas in 2022.
The Patriots finished the season 8-9 with Jones going 6-8 as the starter.
Perhaps the arrival of O’Brien will restore him to Pro Bowl caliber.
