With the NFL season now fully over, we’re going to see a lot of teams making cuts over the next few weeks as they vie to get under the cap and prepare for free agency. For a few members of the New England Patriots, that means the the end of the line.
On Wednesday, the Patriots announced the release of three players. Hitting the waiver wire this week are defensive back Tae Hayes, kicker Quinn Nordin and wide receiver Kristian Wilkerson.
Hayes spent most of the 2022 season with the Carolina Panthers before joining the Saints in December. He appeared in their final two regular season games and made three tackles.
Wilkerson is coming off his third season with the Patriots but did not play in 2022. He has four receptions for 42 yards and two touchdowns in his career, all coming in the 2021 season.
Nordin is coming off his second season in New England but has yet to make his regular season debut since joining the team in 2021.
It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that one or more of those three players may never play in the NFL again. The average career is only a couple of years.
The Patriots aren’t the only team that’s going to be cutting players over the next few weeks though. Everyone is going to be making moves to get their rosters right before the next league year in a few weeks.
Who else can we expect to see get cut in the month of February?
