Look: NFL World Reacts To Tom Brady, Eagles Announcement

May 12, 2023 by The Spun

FOXBOROUGH, MA – AUGUST 16: Tom Brady #12 of the New England Patriots talks to Nick Foles #9 of the Philadelphia Eagles after the Patriots defeated the Eagles 37-20 in a preseason game at Gillette Stadium on August 16, 2018 in Foxborough, Massachusetts. (Photo by Tim Bradbury/Getty Images)

For the first time since his departure from the New England Patriots after the 2019 season, Tom Brady is returning to Foxborough Stadium when his former team hosts the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1.

Earlier today, Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced that Brady will be honored at the game. He spent the final three years of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winning a Super Bowl in 2020, after winning six with the Patriots from 2000 to 2019.

The matchup will also be a rematch of Super Bowl LII – Brady’s last Super Bowl loss – against the Philadelphia Eagles, who are fresh off a Super Bowl appearance of their own.

While Patriots fans are excited to see Brady coming back, Eagles fans are hopeful that they can spoil the party and hope to see Nick Foles – the QB who outdueled Brady five years ago – honored as well.

A lot has changed for both the Eagles and the Patriots since that fateful Super Bowl.

While Bill Belichick is still the head coach in New England, the Eagles fired Super Bowl winner Doug Pederson after the 2020 season have long since offloaded quarterbacks Nick Foles and Carson Wentz.

The 2023 regular season opener between the teams will be a battle between Mac Jones and Jalen Hurts, two quarterbacks who have shown a ton of promise in their first few NFL seasons.
