Rumors surrounding Mac Jones have led to refocused attention on the New England Patriots’ quarterback situation.
According to Dan Patrick, a former Patriots player said there’s some in-house support for Bailey Zappe to seize the starting role. Patrick believes the locker room is “split” between Zappe and Jones.
However, fans aren’t convinced either quarterback is a strong long-term solution under center.

“I don’t think either of those two are the answer at QB,” a fan said. “Bailey Zappe showed flashes, but nothing real consistent, and Mac Jones seems to be at odds with Bill [Belichick]… Not a good QB situation in New England.”

After an impressive rookie season, Jones struggled last year in a tumultuous offense led by the defensive-minded Matt Patricia. On the other hand, Zappe impressed in limited work.
In four games, the fourth-round pick completed 70.7 percent of his passes with a 100.9 quarterback rating. He led New England to consecutive victories as a starter before getting permanently benched for Jones after throwing two picks in a Week 7 loss to the Chicago Bears.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio said the Patriots are shopping Jones, but MassLive’s Mark Daniels spoke to multiple sources that couldn’t corroborate those claims.
