Former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron appears to be a fan of the Patriots’ Bill O’Brien hire.
Speaking on O’Brien’s play-calling ability over the weekend, the XFL QB said he thinks it’s going to be a great fit for Mac Jones and New England.
“OB is a wonderful coach; very intelligent, and he gets guys to play hard. I think he’s going to do an excellent job there,” McCarron said, via ESPN.com.
Next season will be O’Brien’s second stint with the Pats after previously serving as an offensive assistant and coordinator from 2007-2011.
Bill Belichick and Nick Saban are known to be close friends with a lot of overlap when it comes to what they look for in players and coaches.
Now O’Brien will take over a Patriots offense that was one of the worst in NFL this past season. But the familiarity should lead to better results in 2023.
