The New England Patriots will honor Tom Brady when playing the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday. Former teammate Ty Law lamented one aspect of the Gillette Stadium ceremony.
On WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show,” via NESN, the Hall of Fame cornerback expressed disappointment in the Pats tributing Brady while hosting the defending NFC champions, who also defeated him in Super Bowl LII.
“Let me put this on record: If this was really planned out right, you don’t pick the Philadelphia Eagles to honor Tom Brady,” Law said Thursday. “It’s like going to college for the homecoming. You pick the team you’re supposed to win [against], in my opinion. I wouldn’t have picked Philly.”
The Patriots didn’t explicitly pick the Eagles. Robert Kraft announced the Week 1 ceremony before the NFL unveiled the 2023 schedule.
“The greatest player in the history of the game played right here in Foxboro, and I’m happy to tell you…I invited him back to come here and be with us at the opening game.”

Chances are the team was simply accommodating Brady’s schedule. Besides, New England doesn’t have many easy home opponents on tap this season. The Patriots also play the Dolphins, Bills, Jets, Chiefs, Chargers, Saints, and Commanders in Foxborough.
Nick Foles led Philadelphia to a 41-33 win over the Patriots five years ago despite Brady setting a Super Bowl record with 505 passing yards. He led New England to a championship the following year.
On the bright side, the Eagles should also conjure positive memories for the recently retired legend. Back in 2005, Brady captured his third Lombardi Trophy when tossing two touchdowns in a 24-21 win over Donovan McNabb’s Eagles.
The Eagles are four-point favorites to spoil Brady’s homecoming celebration with a road victory this Sunday.
